Crafting for the Soul:  Spring is in the air — and crafters are starting to plan, gather supplies, and create Springtime and Easter masterpieces. Serious crafters are pouring over their favorite supply websites and scouring the aisles of Hobby Lobby, Micheals, and JoAnn’s looking for the best deals on quality materials.

You will know these serious crafters as soon as you see one. They are the ones climbing into the bottom shelves searching for the last styrofoam bunny or pushing a cart full of cloth swatches and paints, with a paintbrush sticking out of the hair piled on top of their head.

These are the crafters who set up tables at the local craft fairs, post their wares in local groups on social media, and may even have booth space at a store or two on Main Street. These are the crafters who love creating things and Crafting for the Soul…mugs, keychains, wreaths, swags, trinket boxes, paintings, hats, shirts, blankets…the list goes on and on!

These are the crafters you will find on our very own Maker-Mall.com. They love creating amazing items and want nothing more than to share their passion with the world (and make a few bucks doing so).

I am one such crafter. While I don’t consider myself a serious crafter, I have been known to crawl into the bottom shelf at Hobby Lobby searching for a special something to make my next project sensational and I have ever headed to Michaels with deco mesh stuck to my pant leg or glitter all over my hair and face.

My crafting journey started when I was a young single mother and needed something that was my very own. I started creating blessing boxes (personalized handpainted bentwood boxes filled with uplifting scriptures) and handpainted garden statues. But, like most single moms, life got super busy and I had to put my crafting projects on the back burner. Actually, they were shoved in a small closet in the basement.

Fast-forward several long years and my curious 18-year-old daughter opens a small closet in the basement and is fascinated by the hundreds of paint bottles, unfinished bentwood boxes, concrete molds, glitter, glue, stencils, and so much more.

Bella’s fascination with craft supplies quickly turned into an idea that blossomed into something amazing. Great Gifts To Go was re-opened after a 15-year hiatus and I began my journey back to Crafting for the Soul.

While I still don’t consider myself to be a serious crafter, I have found a way to stay connected with my daughter through our shared joy in creating fun and imaginative items. Bella’s specialty is designing trinket boxes (and she is now learning how to make gnomes) and mine is wreaths and centerpieces.

But, when we are in the craft room together, we share so much more than a creative space. We share details about our lives and work through life problems.

Crafting for the Soul is so much more than creating a masterpiece, it is about connecting with those we love and bringing joy to those who purchase one of our items. Every crafter puts a piece of their soul into every project they finish. When you purchase a crafter’s project, you are bringing home more than just a wreath or a painting. The artisan has put their heart and soul into that item.

Bella and I are always honored when we are asked to create something special for a client but we are also thrilled when a customer purchases one of our listed items and loves it as much as we do. We hope you drop by Great Gifts To Go and check out what Bella and I do and feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions!
